"The Gavel Gap" - The Impact of a Lack of Diversity in the Judiciary

  • Locke Lord LLP One Financial Plaza, Exchange Street Providence, RI 02903 (map)

Diversity is an essential component of a fair and impartial judiciary. Yet neither our state nor federal courts reflect the diversity of the communities that they serve. In order to increase the public’s trust, confidence and the appearance of fairness in the justice system, we need to recognize the necessity for a more representative judiciary and talk about how to effectively make a change.
